An Indian Jewel in the Heart of Prague
From Big Apple Curry
...Every guide book that recommended the Indian Jewel was right — it was one of the best meals I had in Prague. Even though the Biryani was the most expensive entree I ordered in Prague, the meal was still affordable overall and well worth it (eating in Prague is generally quite affordable). If you’re travelling to Prague (which I recommend, it’s stunning!), love Indian food, and want to take a break from Czech cuisine, definitely go to the Indian Jewel — it won’t disappoint....

India Focus: Businessman Rolls with Changing Times
Sanjeev Wadehra's hotel and restaurants overcome manmade, natural hurdles
From The Prague Post
While not quite the biblical Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the trio of floods, recession and bureaucracy have brought down many a Prague service business in the past decade.
Indian businessman Sanjeev Wadehra was not immune from these events, losing his first restaurant in the 2002 Prague floods, but he has seemingly managed to overcome such challenges to see his hotel and restaurants thrive in recent years.
The Delhi native opened his first restaurant in Prague in 1996, the same year he moved to the country. He now owns and runs a pair of restaurants, Indian Jewel and U Dominikána, and Old Town's Savic Hotel.

In Prague, Authentic Tastes of India
From The New York Times | In Transit: A Guide to Intelligent Travel
Prague, normally a haven for hearty meals like gravy-drenched pork knees with cabbage, is awash in flavors from South Asia, as curry, masala and murgh are suddenly everywhere.
Sanjeev Wadehra, owner of the two-year-old Indian Jewel restaurant (Tyn 6; 420-2-22-31-01-56; www.indianjewel.cz) in the Old Town, estimated that in the past decade the number of Indian restaurants in the Czech capital has grown from roughly 6 to 30.
“These places used to be for tourists,” he said, “but more and more Czechs are willing to venture beyond goulash.” He added that the crowd for Indian Jewel’s 109-koruna (about $6.22) lunch specials, which includes dishes like murgh makani (chicken in tomato cream sauce with basmati rice), is about 80 percent local.
“Many Czechs are still afraid of spicy food so Indian dishes here are mostly mild from the north,” he said.
Indian Jewel is among the more upscale recent openings, with linen tablecloths and colorful portraits of jewel-wearing ladies on the walls. A three-course dinner for two with items like lamb samosas and nawabi tangri kebab (tandoori chicken with egg, cheese, garlic and cashew paste) is 1,395 koruna (about $80). Read full article...
Passage to Indian

Few curry houses in the world can offer diners such a beautiful walk to their spice fix as the Indian Jewel. Although the actual restaurant entrance is low key, to get there you have to walk through the famed Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square) towards the fairy tale Tyn Church with its twin Gothic towers and cluster of spires. The best Indian food I have ever had. I was there with friends for dinner. I had Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala, Bharwan Kulcha & Garlic
Naan bread...Mmmm... Very tasty authentic Indian food, very good service, it was just wonderful. I would definitely be going back to that restaurant when I visit Prague again. I highly recommend the place.
Booked a table for 2 in September 2016 for our visit to Prague at Christmas. It was fabulous. I have been eating curry for over 40 years and it was easily the best I've ever had. We shared a Chicken Tikka starter (full portion) which was truly outstanding. Mains were Tikka Masala and. Lamb Rogan josh, both were divine. Great service, not expensive, wonderful food. We will be back this year!!
I had dinner yesterday at Indian Jewel. My wife and I, we relished all the dishes that we had. Chicken tikka was really very succulent and juicy. Full of flavour. Lassi was just of the right consistency. Not too thick nor too thin and perfectly sweetened. Main course was also just too good. I definitely will suggest this restaurant to all.
Thank you for a wonderful evening of delicious food. Very, very much. The warm, sensual atmosphere, cozy room. Special thanks to Lena for a story about Indian food and for help in choosing dishes. Be sure to come back to you again.
